What is a globular cluster?
Globular clusters are tightly packed, symmetrical collections of stars, orbiting mostly in the extended star halos surrounding most spiral galaxies.
I have studied and analysed two globular cluster in the constellation
- NGC 5139 is a globular cluster in the constellation of Centaurus that was first identified as a non-stellar object by Edmond Halley in 1677. Located at a distance of 15,800 light-years. It is the most massive globular cluster in the Milky Way.
- NGC 3918 is a bright planetary nebula in the constellation Centaurus. It is the brightest of the far southern planetary nebulae. This nebula was discovered by Sir John Herschel in March 1834, and is easily visible through small telescopes.
